The Amphibian 3.0 is the most versatile bag in the Echidna range — and the only one that truly does four jobs in one. Built for ute tailgates, spare wheels, caravan stoneguards, and many more (we've seen them used on ladders), it's the complete package for anyone who tows, explores, and refuses to carry gear that isn't pulling its weight. Upgraded to 3.0 with ISO lab-tested, fade-proof canvas and the same bomb-proof hardware spec as The Outback 3.0.

USE 01
Ute tailgate
Mounts flush to the tailgate with zinc alloy buckles and seatbelt straps. Paint-protection backing plate included.
USE 02
Spare wheel
Wraps around spare tyres from 24" to 33". Secure, weatherproof, and spacious at 55L.
USE 03
Stoneguard
Ideal for caravan stoneguards. Protects the surface and turns dead space into 55L of usable storage.

01 — Exterior
3.0 upgrade. Zero compromise.
600gsm hard-coated waterproof canvas — upgraded to the 3.0 standard with independently ISO lab-tested, fade-proof fabric rated Blue Wool Scale 8. The Amphibian holds its colour and strength in harsh sun, river crossings, and dusty corrugated roads. Reinforced base prevents sagging so it always looks the part on your tailgate.
02 — Mounting & Paint Protection
Tough on your gear. Gentle on your paint.
Extra-thick zinc alloy buckles and seatbelt-grade straps hold the bag rock-solid on your tailgate or wheel. The included paint-protection backing plate sits between the bag and your vehicle surface, preventing scuffs and scratches during mounting and on the road.
For 100% paint protection on the tailgate, apply an invisible vinyl wrap to the contact area before mounting.
03 — Storage
55 litres. A rubbish bin fits perfectly.
An 840gsm PVC waterproof lining keeps everything dry. At 55 litres, the Amphibian holds a standard Ezy Storage Slim Line 30L bin with room to spare for other gear. The removable trucker mesh internal bag (included free) makes emptying rubbish or extracting gear a one-pull job at any campsite.

The details that make the difference.
YKK racquet coil zippers (premium grade) run smooth under load. A drainage eyelet in the base prevents moisture pooling. Mesh pockets on both sides give quick-access storage for smaller items. Every feature was tested in real conditions before it made the final cut.

How does it attach to a ute tailgate?
The Amphibian uses zinc alloy buckles and seatbelt-grade straps that loop over or around the tailgate and secure on the other side. The included paint-protection backing plate sits between the bag and the tailgate surface to prevent scuffing. For additional paint protection, an invisible vinyl wrap on the contact area is recommended. Can it really be used on both a tailgate and a spare wheel?
Yes — that's the whole point of the Amphibian design. The bag and strap system is flexible enough to mount flat against a tailgate surface or wrap around a spare wheel (25"–33"). It also works on flat caravan stoneguards and other set ups such as ladders (commonly used on Mercedes Benz Sprinter). Most customers use it primarily as a tailgate bag and stoneguard bag, but the spare wheel application is equally effective.
What plastic bin fits best in this bag?
The Ezy Storage Slim Line Rubbish Bin 30L fits perfectly inside the Amphibian with room for other gear around it. It's a slimline rectangular design that suits the bag's shape well. For those using it as a pure storage bag without a bin, the full 50L is available for gear.
Will the canvas fade in the sun?
No — the 3.0 uses fade-proof canvas independently ISO lab tested to a Blue Wool Scale rating of 8, the highest UV resistance grade available. It holds its colour in harsh sun exposure, including Australian outback conditions.
What's included in the box?
Every Amphibian 3.0 order includes: the main bag, one extra-large removable trucker mesh internal bag (velcro-mounted), and a paint-protection backing plate. Note that the Amphibian does not include a security cable or combination lock — if you need one, you can pick up a compatible lock from any hardware store.
How does the Amphibian compare to The Outback 3.0?
The Outback 3.0 is purpose-built for spare wheels only — it's shaped to wrap a round tyre, holds 70L, and fits 31"–37" tyres. The Amphibian is a flat-profiled, rectangular bag designed for tailgates, stoneguards, and tyres up to 33". It holds 55L. Both share the same canvas spec, hardware, and UV rating. Choose The Outback 3.0 for a dedicated wheel bag; choose The Amphibian if you want a tailgate bag that doubles on a wheel or stoneguard.
